Dr. K's clinic

First day at Dr K’s clinic .. He always wears distinct ties and a genuine smile .. A 25 yr old Thal major on testosterone replacement .. now we discover he has low sperm count .. we speculate and discuss whether he would need fertility treatment .. then he chips in and tells us he has a Thal major girlfriend .. and wants to marry her .. This leads to another bout of counselling where he is told that having a biological child is wrought with risk... then he may not really need fertility preservation, would he ? He looks a little crest-fallen and says “ In the perfect world I wouldn’t have chosen another girl who was suffering from the same malady that I  am .. but this is life .. love happens !“   Mother of a 6 yr old with multiple pituitary hormone deficiency  breaks down into tears as she tells us she is separated from her husband and fighting for custody .. and that her husband has stopped the treatment, putting her child at risk .. it...

Ascension

When I first read the “Ascension” brochure I was wide eyed for quite some time.. as the whole concept of ascension was a daring one .. knowing it would be scoffed at as being too abstract and with no real application. One of the best debates was about the standing of an Indian medical graduate in today’s world. Brilliant panelist’s and veterans like Dr Avinash Supe, Dr Ravi Ramakant and Dr Tushar put forth their experiences and thoughts .. for ...

Why aren’t we averagely nice to each other on a daily basis.. what does it take to share a smile or a joke with a  stranger..  I experienced a marked contrast in the Thai people.  Initially  I found their constant smiles annoying( that’s how conditioned I have become to being miserable) .. Man! Even their billboards had actors smiling ( in India mostly all actors are trying to look tough ) .  Even the doctors we met at our conference did not appear too serious or precise, and though I cribbed about it initially, I then wondered why it was that I was getting a heart attack if a  slight glitch in protocol occurred .why  it was so important for me to prove I was better than...
