Animals are spiritual beings

Why do we feel we are superior to animals?
Why do our religious scriptures tell us that in our past lives we were probably animals that would have had committed lesser sins and hence born human in this life ?
And that only as  humans can we tread the path towards freeing our souls…

Or is this something we made up to make ourselves feel better?

Men are tormented with the greed of the perfect life .. a little more money .. a little more respect ..a little more acceptance…  a little more happiness .. but how much is enough ? and at what cost?

The same time we’r obsessed with the concept of self knowledge .. finding peace amidst this turmoil .. and being pulled in different directions because our mind has lost its discretion and we’r greedy for experiences…

We wander around in search for the recipe of happiness .. trying our hand at spirituality.. like it’s a cookbook … fed by the ideas of learned men  before us .. and we strive to feel that uplifting moment when the universe starts making sense ..

Is our brain our friend or our worst enemy … sometimes I fear it is the latter.. logical thinking destroys the joy of the abstract … and there is too much awareness of the good and the bad , the right and the wrong, judgement and prejudices ..  and a hindrance to just feeling and believing, in an unquestioning manner.

The path to spiritual awakening is to free the mind of thoughts and negative emotions and set our mind to the task in hand .. live in the moment …"Karma Yog" for the common people as Gita describes it .. and everyone realizes how tremendously difficult it is to follow these simple instructions.

Animals on the other hand are definitely on the path to nirvana. They do not discriminate or make silly prejudices , they do not have a caste system .
They do not care about appearances .. I wonder who taught us whats beautiful and whats not .. I don’t think there was ever an ugly duckling, except in the eyes of humans.
They live in their clan .. protect each other fiercely .. fight fiercely if needed .. .. attack only when threatened. They are territorial yet they do not have a sense of ownership .. they give the earth the respect it deserves.
They tell the truth ... they do not disguise their emotions ..their emotions shine naked on their faces.. they do not have to appease anyone or exploit to get their means .. they're self dependent..
They aren't in a reckless hurry to get somewhere better, nor are they racked by memories of the past or worries about the future..

They do their tasks with a fierce concentration ..whether its obtaining the next meal or just digging their burrow.. taking their time .. with infinite patience and precision.. and will they get any applause for the same ? I think not cause they aren’t aware of the concept of being applauded .. they have no ego

I wonder if even our Gods  could boast of such qualities.. The amount we imbibe from reading our religious textbooks or self help books, we could probably learn by observing animals .. and so I think if I do enough good deeds this life , I may get to be a squirrel or a dolphin or a mouse .. maybe even a bird in my next life.. and then I’d be oblivious to words like happiness and misery and spiritual awakening .. and wont that be bliss !!
