Shilpis wedding - Key events



1. Shilpi was smiling throughout the wedding with her lips closed, no teeth showing .. so her dentist husband would not see

2. On night of sangeet the bride did a few neat vodka shots without flinching. And within few seconds she started describing all her to- be sasural waale. With all degrees of explicit. Complete destruction!

3. She told us that our group dance at her sangeet was "Palangtod".. FYI -this was the least explicit .. and then also “ Arey main koi talli nahi hun ..ye sab to mbbs level ka normal hai” “ Ey tum log mere liye kuchh gift laye nahi kya .. kahaan hai wo sab books -vooks.. ( she meant the kamasutra books.. our usual gifting tradition :P)     
               
4. Donx got lost in a mall . It was the biggest mall of India after all, only natural she would get lost  :D

5. Shilps was a total boss dancing with elan at the sangeet and looking demure the next day at reception .. also instructing Abhishek on stage very visibly (:P ) and with full authority during the dance and he following .. way to go girl ! 

4. Shilps looking like an absolute doll while doing the pHere.. although we could imagine all the explicits circulating in her head while she was being made to do the” Saat vachan” ( formulated by a band of chauvinist 
Indian males to the likes of “ The girl shall not go to the garden alone .. or near someone who drinks alcohol .. the same rule doesn’t apply to the hubby ? ( if only someone could make a version of honest Indian weddings again)
Well, atleast they din’t say anything about her drinking did they? :P:P Loophole alert !!

5. Our hearts went out to her when we saw her sobbing as the vidaai approached cz wev all been through that
 terrible feeling.. but then she started howling and crying and calling “mummy mummy” and then we
 remembered apni MBBS Waali Shilpi who always cried this way - “Ye to normal hai MBBS waala” :P

 6. Game night- The window between reception and phere Parth succeeded in getting us out of our slumber and into dumbcharades mode .. cz Dumbcharades is THE BEST :D .. then Taboo ( which Donx found too pressurising:P)  and then some random imagining game ( super fun).. it was a laugh riot as usual .. at the end we suggested Nikshi should do a dumb charades swayamvar.. it’s awesome for assessing compatibility . 

Most importantly, we got our CRAZY back ;D

  Attending the Isha Gramotsavam was a once in a lifetime experience...the vibrance and energy was unparalleled and unique ..  was just a beautiful movement of upholding the rural spirit,   bringing playfulnes in their lives ..in the face of adversity and struggles .. Lessons from New York

Here I’m describing some revelations I had during my 2 months doing electives in a medical school in New York. P.S.-Please do not be offended by “ We Indians”. I’ve made fun of Americans and Indians equally. Cheers! 1. American movies somehow take place only in New York. 2.No one talks to each other on the plane. You end up missing the loud banter of aunties sitting on side berth and gossiping loudly for the whole train’s benefit. But then they start feeding you on the plane and that somewhat makes up for the lonely feeling :P 3.There are no coolies haggling amongst each other to grab your luggage. Trolleys instead, and one costs 5 $!! (=Rs.250):O:O.. And from here on the dollar to rupee conversion starts in your head… and doesn’t end till you’re back in India. 4.The taxis that we take so much for granted in our country are a luxury in US.. and you’ve to tip the driver just for driving the damned taxi.. hey isn’t that what we’re paying him for in the first place ?...

Overwhelmed

            I was in my alma mater today .. and incidentally got talking with an MBBS student .. she was awed when she heard I was a past MBBS student from the same college and now MD Pediatrics with a Fellowship in Pediatric Endocrinology.. somehow I felt undeserving of that emotion ..  Am I a big deal in the medical world ? What has it really translated into ?  I have all these years of training and labour and sweat .. has it shaped me better, have I evolved or have I also embibed cynicism and a touch of bitterness on the way ? She went on to ask me what had kept me motivated to achieve what I have .. and I muttered something about it not being as great as it appears. . she was a little disbelieving .. I told her it's been a long and arduous journey .. and Im still to see the light at the end of the tunnel. She opened up about her problems then .. being holed up in a roomful of 10 in a strange city; facing sleep...
